American Government

Is American government unique or exceptional? The short answer to both is yes, but the real question is why?

The United States was not created in a vacuum. Both classical and English/British antecedents contributed to the American system of government, but Americans also created their own political traditions and customs. The result is our Anglo-American system of self-government and self-determination anchored by written constitutions and the rule of law.

This course will review the principles behind American government and review the traditions that contributed to the founders' vision of a new American polity.
